Russian painting is the core of the collection. This selection holds 99 works of the Russian, Soviet and post-Soviet school: from 8 000 to 1 200 000 ₽; from 4 000 to 70 000 $ (some works are priced in US dollars). Only artists whose belonging to the Russian tradition is confirmed are included; foreign masters from the collection are kept in a separate selection so the attribution stays precise.

It is a broad chronological span – from turn-of-the-century landscape painters of the Peredvizhniki circle and the Academy, through the Soviet school and unofficial art, to artists working today: Mikhail Shemyakin, Konstantin Batynkov, the Rostov scene.

“Russian school” here means an artistic tradition, not descent: the Greek-born Nikolai Khimona, who studied under Kuindzhi in St Petersburg, belongs to Russian painting, while a Russian-born émigré of the École de Paris does not. Each artist was checked individually.
