The selection brings together painting of the Russian, Soviet and present-day Russian school – from classical landscape and still life of the late 19th to the mid-20th century to works by artists working today. It includes only artists whose place in the Russian artistic tradition has been confirmed; works by foreign masters in the collection are in the general Painting section.

Russian painting is the core of the collection. This selection holds 97 works of the Russian, Soviet and post-Soviet school: from 95 to 70 000 $; price on request for some works.

It is a broad chronological span – from turn-of-the-century landscape painters of the Peredvizhniki circle and the Academy, through the Soviet school and unofficial art, to artists working today: Mikhail Shemyakin, Konstantin Batynkov, Alexander Chursin, Oleg Ustinov, the SITO group.

“Russian school” here means an artistic tradition, not descent: the Greek-born Nikolai Khimona, who studied under Kuindzhi in St Petersburg, belongs to Russian painting, while a Russian-born émigré of the École de Paris does not. Each artist was checked individually.
