“GOD-POP” belongs to Oleg Ustinov's early Rostov-on-Don period, connected with the art group “Toad and Devil” (2006–2011), which criticized consumer society in a trash-and-lubok idiom. The title collides the sacred with the language of pop art, playing on the mechanics of mass culture and advertising. Executed on cardboard in mixed media, it reflects the deliberately “low,” handmade imagery of that circle.
