Knight's Romance

Author:Konstantin Alexandrovich Batynkov

Year:2006

In selections:Russian painting, Contemporary painting

6 000 $

Technique: Acrylic, vinyl fabric.
Size: 106 × 200 cm.

The work belongs to the circle of Batynkov's 2006 project "Allegories. A Knight's Romance", presented at the pop/off/art gallery. The title echoes the eponymous romance by Mikhail Glinka to words by Nestor Kukolnik, though the artist recasts the romantic motif in his own recognizable idiom. Executed in acrylic on vinyl fabric in a broad horizontal format, its monumental scale and restrained, near-monochrome palette are typical of Batynkov's painting of these years, which couples irony with an epic register.
