Andrey Anatolyevich Vishnevsky (b. 1978) is a Russian painter and graphic artist who lives and works in Rostov-on-Don. Andrey Anatolyevich Vishnevsky was born in 1978 and graduated from Rostov State Pedagogical University, where his first solo exhibition was held in 2000; he lives and works in Rostov-on-Don. Alongside painting and graphic art he practises tattooing, works as a curator and exhibition organiser, and lectures on contemporary art and the art of tattooing. In 2013 the Rostov Regional Museum of Fine Arts held his solo exhibition of painting and graphic work “Without Masks”, and in 2014 the Rostov gallery 16th line showed “More than Needles”. According to the exhibition list published by the artist himself, the same gallery held his solo exhibition “The Human Formula” in 2019; he took part in Russian Art Week in Moscow in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and between 2011 and 2019 in tattoo conventions in Prague, Kraków, Voronezh and Moscow.
The works in the collection connect to series named by the artist himself. “Equilibrium” and “The Teacher” are assigned to the “Without Masks” series, which also gave its title to the 2013 museum exhibition. The artist's own website places the painting “The Market Face” – held here as “The Face of the Market Economy” – in the same series. For “Cyber Gothic”, “Cocktail”, “Cocoon”, “Righteous Men” and “Baby Terrier”, no series attribution is stated in the available sources. His other projects – “The Human Formula”, “Machines”, “Robots” and “Dracula Jet” – are not represented in the collection. The themes he returns to are the masks of everyday life and the darker side of the human being, globalisation and consumer society, and the technological environment and the place of the individual within it.
