Krestovozdvizhensky Monastery

Technique: Canvas, oil.

The architectural motif – a monastery ensemble – belongs to the urban and landscape subjects Bukh pursued alongside flowers and the nude. The work dates from the artist's late, Expressionist period: from the early 1980s he gave up brushes and palette, painting with his hands and mixing the colour directly on the canvas. The forms of the church are built not by drawing but by saturated colour and the dense texture of the paint layer.
