Landscape with a Blue Mountain belongs to the extensive body of landscapes from Burliuk's American period. Executed in mixed media on cardboard, its combination of colored pencil, pastel and watercolor is characteristic of the mobile, sketch-like manner of these years. In his later work the artist's hard-edged Cubo-Futurist idiom gave way to a gentler, decorative Post-Impressionist register, to which this motif with its broadly rendered mountain silhouette also belongs.
