A painted copy of a portrait of I.V. Stalin by Dmitry Arkadyevich Nalbandyan (1906–1993), executed by an unidentified hand. The original – "I.V. Stalin in Marshal's Uniform in His Kremlin Study" (1945) – is one of the canonical official portraits of its era, for which Nalbandyan, a leading Soviet portraitist, received a Stalin Prize. The copy reproduces the formal, ceremonial composition typical of mid-twentieth-century Soviet portraiture.
