A sheet from the suite "Le Bestiaire de La Fontaine dalinisé" – twelve drypoints in which Dalí reinterpreted Jean de La Fontaine's fables in a Surrealist vein (published by Les Maîtres Contemporains, Paris). The subject follows the fable "The Oak and the Reed": the mighty oak broken by the storm and the pliant reed that survives by bending before the wind. Executed in drypoint with hand-colouring en pochoir (stencil).
