A sheet from the suite "Le Bestiaire de La Fontaine dalinisé," in which Dalí reworked Jean de La Fontaine's fables in a Surrealist manner (published by Les Maîtres Contemporains, Paris). The subject derives from the fable "Les Animaux malades de la peste" (The Animals Sick of the Plague): beasts stricken by plague seek a culprit and lay the blame on the weakest among them. Drypoint with hand-colouring en pochoir.
