Innards

Series:Edition 93/225

Year:1979

830 $

Technique: Lithograph.
Size: 76 × 54 cm.

An early lithograph continuing Chemiakin's interest in "carnal" subject matter – carcasses, offal, butchered flesh – which unfolded in his Paris series "Le Ventre de Paris" (1977), devoted to the butchers of the central market. The still-life object reads at once as physiological matter and as a metaphysical sign, in the artist's characteristic way of seeing the hidden essence behind a thing.
