Metaphysical Bust

Author:Mikhail Mikhailovich Shemyakin
Year:1980
2 700 $
Technique: Paper, ink, watercolor.
Size: 26 × 35 cm.
The sheet relates to the idea of "metaphysical synthetism", which Shemyakin developed together with the philosopher Vladimir Ivanov – a search for universal foundations of form across different eras and traditions. The bust is treated as the subject of an abstract study of form; ink and watercolour allow the image to be built through subtle tonal transitions.
