Metaphysical Heads

Author:Mikhail Mikhailovich Shemyakin
Year:1992
2 700 $
Technique: Paper, ink, watercolor.
Size: 56 × 75 cm.
The work belongs to the "metaphysical heads" – a cycle of meta-busts arising from the theory of "metaphysical synthetism" that the artist developed together with the philosopher Vladimir Ivanov. The head is treated as an autonomous plastic object; the image is built on the finest chiaroscuro transitions characteristic of Shemyakin's graphic manner.
