On the City Outskirts

Author:Fritz Müller-Landeck
Year:late 19th century
2 900 $
Technique: Canvas, oil.
Size: 71 × 100.5 cm.
A landscape by Fritz Müller-Landeck (1865–1942), a German painter who trained under Paul Meyerheim and Eugen Bracht at the Berlin Academy of Arts and worked in Munich from 1889. The motif of a town's outskirts – the threshold between built-up streets and open country – accords with the artist's landscape practice, which favoured rural views and winter scenes. The work is executed in oil in the restrained tonal manner of the Munich school around the turn of the century. Works by the painter are held, among other places, in the Lenbachhaus in Munich.
