A small-scale porcelain sculpture with painted decoration by the Leningrad master Efim Aronovich Gendelman (1914–1982), made during his years at the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory in Leningrad (1955–1967). The figure of a young skater, also known as 'The Figure Skater', develops the physical-culture and sporting theme characteristic of Soviet small-scale porcelain of the 1950s. Gendelman, who was called 'the singer of porcelain', trained in the sculpture department of the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad under Alexander Matveev.
