The Baranivka Porcelain Factory – one of the oldest porcelain-producing enterprises on the territory of Ukraine. In the early 19th century the city of Baranivka, Zhytomyr Oblast, became the only place in the Russian Empire where genuine Chinese porcelain was made (meaning – using genuine Chinese technology). In 1802, on the bank of the Sluch River, local peasants accidentally discovered creolin – a special type of clay from which, in fact, that very finest porcelain is made in China. A porcelain factory was founded by Mikhail Mezer on the site of the find. D23/349-1/1
