A Spanish painter, sculptor and ceramicist who defined the face of 20th-century art. Born in Málaga, he moved early to Barcelona and then to Paris. He passed through his “Blue” and “Rose” periods, and with “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon” (1907) opened the way to Cubism, created together with Georges Braque. He worked with phenomenal productivity and in every technique – painting, sculpture, ceramics, etching, linocut. “Guernica” (1937) became the century’s foremost anti-war statement. He left tens of thousands of works; his prints form a substantial market of their own.
