Gogol's Characters. The Manilovs.

A porcelain figure, "The Manilovs," from the "Gogol Characters" series of the Lomonosov Porcelain Factory (LFZ). The series, based on N.V. Gogol's "Dead Souls" and "The Government Inspector," was created in the late 1940s and early 1950s; the models were made by the sculptor B.Ya. Vorobyov, with painting by the artist I.I. Riznich. The composition depicts the Manilov couple from "Dead Souls" and follows the tradition of literary subjects in Soviet porcelain sculpture.
