A work from the series "Cheerful Pictures" (Veselye Kartinki), which Batynkov showed at the pop/off/art gallery in 2009. In this cycle the artist noticeably departs from his customary monochrome and brings in active color, combining the coloring of classical painting with the compositional devices of a cinematic, "freeze-frame" language. The series turns on recognizable images on the verge of vanishing and on landscapes caught in elemental or destructive movement – a circle of motifs to which "Grad" (Hail) also belongs.
