This cityscape belongs to the Parisian theme that runs throughout Lucien Adrion's work: Notre-Dame, the Seine and its embankments were among his favourite motifs. Of Alsatian origin and settled in Montparnasse, close to the School of Paris circle, he painted the capital in a manner descended from Impressionism, with a light, silvery-blue palette and attention to air and to reflections on the water. The restrained tonality and fluid, mobile brushwork are typical of his Parisian views.
