Life years 1925–2016

About the artist

One of the leaders of the Lianozovo group and of Soviet unofficial art. He studied under Pyotr Sokolov, a pupil of Malevich – hence his direct link to the tradition of the Russian avant-garde. A participant in the suppressed “Bulldozer Exhibition” (1974). He developed his signature motif: playing cards, card tables and fans – abstraction combined with texture, relief and collage. His works are in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum and the Centre Pompidou. The foundation’s catalogue holds one work.
