Forest Landscape develops one of the enduring motifs of Russian painting – a corner of the woods rendered in a calm, contemplative key. The elongated horizontal format opens the space of the thicket outward, while the oil technique conveys the density of the foliage and the softness of natural light. The work belongs to the realist landscape tradition of the mid-twentieth century.
