Autumn Landscape is an intimate oil in which Sergei Georgievich Antonov (1932–2006) turns to a lyrical landscape motif. An Honored Artist of the RSFSR who worked from 1956 at the M. B. Grekov Studio of Military Artists, Antonov became known chiefly as a printmaker, yet regarded himself first and foremost as a painter. Most of his best-known series are associated with military subjects, alongside which he also turned to landscape. The painting continues the tradition of Russian realist landscape, with its attention to the mood of nature and the muted tonality of autumn.
