The painting belongs to the STRONG cycle, one of the central series by the Krasnodar painter Igor Mikhailenko (b. 1969), which together with the RED and MENS series forms an extended self-portrait of the artist. Executed in the expressive manner characteristic of the author – poised between abstraction, surrealism and pop art – the composition addresses the themes of inner struggle, alienation and existential solitude that run through the whole cycle. A graduate of the Krasnodar Art School and director of the Krasnodar Regional Exhibition Hall from 2006 to 2016, Mikhailenko is represented in the collections of the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art and the Kovalenko Krasnodar Regional Art Museum.
