Collective Farm Landscape belongs to the landscape strand in the work of Boris Sporykhin, a Rostov painter and People's Artist of Russia whose art is bound up with the theme of the Don land and rural life. Executed in oil on cardboard, the piece continues the tradition of Soviet realist landscape that the artist absorbed during his training at the Rostov Art School and the Surikov State Art Institute in Moscow. Sporykhin's painting is marked by dense brushwork and a saturated, sunny palette with which he rendered the nature and everyday life of his native region.
