The "Jerusalem Windows" became one of Chagall's principal works in stained glass – a medium to which he devoted much of his later career, alongside monumental murals and the theatre. The twelve windows of the synagogue at the Hadassah Medical Center near Jerusalem join the biblical theme of the twelve tribes of Israel with the artist's familiar vocabulary of animals, birds, fish and flowering branches. This serigraph reproduces one of the windows from the cycle through the printmaking medium.
